This is
a blog that is dedicated to modding for video games. There is a great need for
future game designers to show their work to peers and potential developers. There is no blog on the web that talks about how modding is helpful to developers and players, and how to get started all at once. This blog will highlight the importance of modding
in the video game community, while at the same time keeping viewers up-to-date
on the news in the modding world.
Modding
helps to build a mutually beneficial relationship between student and
developer. For example, Valve's Team Fortress 2 is continuously expanding
thanks to the mods that people create. The mods that Valve chooses get added to
the game, and the creators of these mods get a small percentage of the money
they make. Another great example is Unreal Tournament III. Players create
different characters, weapons, or even levels that can be added on to the game
as mods. The player gets to learn how to work with one of the most common game
engines, and the developer gets their game expanded for free. These are the
beneficial relationships that I will talk about in this blog.
While
modding is a good way to learn to work with different video game engines, it is
often intimidating for unfamiliar users to get into. This blog will point out
several helpful sources and tutorials on modding for video games. At the same
time, there will be links to user friendly software for modding and a list of
some easy-to-mod video games to help keep viewers on the right path. This blog
will also keep viewers updated on the latest modding news, most notably the
future of Valve and the much talked about SteamOS.
Modding
is a great way to sharpen your game design skills while at the same time fuel
your creativity in positive ways. This blog will be a useful tool to help you
get started.
